If you’re looking for experience as a member of a review panel (as many of us discussed at the recent LPSC), this week’s Planetary Exploration Newsletter has news for you!
[NASA] INVITATION TO BE A PROPOSAL REVIEWER FOR THE PLANETARY DIVISION
The Planetary Science Division encourages scientists, especially early
career researchers, to volunteer to be reviewers. To volunteer please
send a brief description of your areas expertise and/or names of ROSES
programs which you feel most qualified to review, and a short CV to:
SARA@nasa.gov .
Go for it!

And FYI, I KNOW that they are paying attention to this at NASA. They really DO want names.
But also, please be cognizant of the conflict of interest rules. If you are submitting a proposal to a program this year (or serving as a Co-I), don’t ALSO volunteer to serve as a panelist. Or if it is a small program and you know the colleague down the hall is submitting, you probably won’t be called to serve either (bigger programs have more flexibility in avoiding conflicts).

Oh, and it isn’t just for planetary programs. You can volunteer for ANY SMD program by emailing SARA.

I should have noted something very important on this topic … this announcement was made AS A DIRECT RESULT of the conversation had at our breakfast at LPSC. NASA is listening … and it’s all good.
