Lego Friends – for the girls
Interesting article about how Lego is bringing a line out called Lego Friends that is aimed at girls aged 5 and up. Previously, Lego solely focused on “boy interests”. Now they want to “reach the other 50 percent of the world’s children.” New colors, 29 new mini-figures of girls of different nationalities, and model backdrops that include such things as a salon, a horse academy, a veterinary clinic, and a café.

What do you think about this? Is this great news for girls, that it might encourage them to build and create more?
These toys won’t be out until after the holidays in the US, and roll out on Dec 26th in the U.K. but should be on the shelves already in France.
Happy holidays everyone!

The first pic I saw of this had a robot & chemistry set with the Lego girl. I think this is a good thing.
Nice to have new colours – but hope the new backdrops aren’t too “barbie”. My daughters (8 & 5) have pastel girls lego and the traditional stuff and play with both equally – not sure they differentiate them to be honest? More characters would be good – but only if they aren’t too stereotypical…
“a salon, a horse academy, a veterinary clinic, and a café”. Sheesh. Glad to see someone else has seen a chemistry set. How about a hospital, a school, an archaeological dig, a museum, the space station? My girls happily play with the bold colored ones and enjoyed one of the movie themed ones (can’t remember…. some desert thing with ancient mystics and stuff…).
