What do you want to see next?

July 28, 2008

I’ve got a whiteboard with at least four ideas for IFOV/WIPS articles.  I thought I’d ask what you, dear readers, are most interested in hearing about (cast your vote in the comments):

1) The subcommittees of the NASA Advisory Council, which advise NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (the organization that is responsible for unmanned spaceflight missions and science funding)

2) The 2-body problem

3) Rejection and Criticism (giving and receiving, with papers and proposals)

4) What *is* a Ph.D.?  (i.e., what are you getting into, and what are you being prepared for?)

Yes, that’s a great idea. Would also like to see discussion of the latest on #2….

I’d vote for number 4 also. As someone with a PhD, who isn’t using it, and now finds herself in the dreaded “over-qualified” problem, I think it is really, really important to make sure people understand what they are getting in for.

Hi, I’ve just found your website! My vote is for 4; I’m interested in what a planetary science career entails…

in addition, could you name a few good schools (undergrad and grad) for planetary? thank you in advance!
