Scholarships for women in science?

September 18, 2008

A friend asked yesterday if I knew of scholarships specifically targeted for women in science. Things have changed a bit since I was in school, so I’m afraid I wasn’t much help.

Maybe you can help an undergraduate or high school senior with a comment here — what national scholarships are out there for women looking to major in one of the sciences?

Everything online starts with a search, so go to a search engine and type in your situation and how much money you are looking to receive.

Note sure if someone still watches this thread, but the American Meteorological Society has a variety of scholarships, including those targeted toward recruiting women and minority students, for those interested in Earth and Atmospheric sciences –

Not exactly what you are looking for, but related:
There are a list of grants available at JPL for summer students, including grants for minorities. If the student lives in the Los Angeles area, then there are opportunities for keeping her/him part-time during the year.

This is the best list I know of:

Many are general scholarships/grants/programs but some of the “minority” opportunities are listed. Most are not exclusive to women.

    Hope it helps though.
