January 7, 2009

Plans are in the works to create the annual LPSC Women’s Networking Breakfast at the new location.

If you have ideas or wishes for this time, speak up! We’d love to hear about it!

The WomenPlanetSci twitter commented the breakfast was on Tuesday (this was a while ago) – until we get official word, I’m assuming Tuesday.

When is the breakfast scheduled for? I may have missed a posting. Sorry..

    Mummycha,

Great question! I’m very open to anything from a simple time to meet each other to moving forward on any burning issues.

Since last year, the question of LPI posting a list of resources for families has been closed, the PI rules have been revoked, a new conference on women in astronomy and space sciences has been planned (not by this group), and we’ve created a virtual space for informal networking and discussion of issues (here). We also have a listserv of women in planetary science.

The availability of a nursing room at LPSC remains open, as do a number of our other ideas from last March — but it’s up to the group as a whole to determine if further action is needed or wanted on any of those ideas, or if needs are being met by current initiatives.

At this point, the nature and content of the meeting are wide open for comment.

Sorry, I was wondering “what objectives you have in mind,” not “what science objectives.” I need more coffee…

    Hi,

Thanks for organizing such an event this year again. I would like to know what science objectives you have in mind for this next get-together: implement a network, start the preparation of a white paper, e.g., recommendations to NASA, create a lobby, etc.?
Do you think it would be the right place to invite representatives of the LPI meetings organizing committee for in-depth brainstorming about how they can make their meetings more mother-friendly? I know they are open to discussions, but they also need specific input from us.
    What do you think?
    Thanks
