Women in Astrophysics and Space Sciences meeting
The Women in Astrophysics and Space Sciences 2009 meeting will be held October 21-23 in College Park, Maryland. This meeting is being put together by the community, led by Anne Kinney at Goddard, and boasts a number of fantastic panels and speakers.
The cost of the three day meeting is $250 if you register before 9/21/09, but there are travel grants available for graduate students and those less than 3 years post-Ph.D. Application for the travel grants closes 9/1/09, so if you think you may be interested, submit an application today!
Edited to add: the following announcement was just received from the Women in Astronomy and Space Science Organizing Committee:
We have been working on organizing a meeting entitled “Women in Astronomy
and Space Science: Meeting the Challenges of an Increasingly Diverse
Workforce”, Oct 21-23 at University of Maryland University College.
While “women” is the first word in the title, the meeting focuses on all
aspects of today’s scientific workforce, with special emphasis on diversity
and also some emphasis on generational differences. We now have 4
generations in the science workforce together, with the youngest generation
also being the most diverse — so the gaps in understanding can compound!
We would like to ask you to help us get the word out to the community.
Please have a look at our web site http://wia2009.gsfc.nasa.gov — and pass
it on to interested scientists!
There is a strong emphasis on best practices at the meeting, along with good
networking events. We think our meeting will be very helpful to the diverse
community of scientists who are early in their career, as well as the
mentors and managers of today’s diverse scientific workforce.
September 21 is the deadline for early registration, as well as the deadline
for poster submission. Please join us and bring along your lessons learned
and best practices.
We hope to see you there!
