The Women in Planetary Science Blog congratulates Laurie Leshin, a prominent member of the planetary science community, on her appointment today as Deputy Associate Administrator for Exploration at NASA Headquarters.
Dr. Leshin began her career in cosmochemistry at Arizona State and CalTech, giving annual presentations at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference. She published over 40 papers and was promoted to full professor and Director of the Center for Meteorites Studies at Arizona State University. While at Arizona State, she proposed a mission to Mars and agreed to serve on President Bush’s Commission on Implementation of United States Space Exploration Policy. A year later, Dr. Leshin moved to Goddard Space Flight Center as the Director of Sciences and Exploration. Since January 2008, she has been the Deputy Director for Science and Technology at Goddard.
Laurie, we’re proud of you, we’re behind you, and we wish you all the best in your new position at NASA Headquarters!
