Paycheck Fairness Act

June 15, 2010

Did you know that June 10th marked the 47th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act?  At the time it was enacted, women on average made 59 cents for every dollar earned by men, today we are up to 77 cents on the dollar.  Better, sure, but still not good.

The Paycheck Fairness Act (S.182) was introduced in the Senate last year  and is designed to close some of the loopholes in the Equal Pay Act that have allowed some employers to continue discriminatory practices.  Right now the bill has 42 cosponsors, are your senators among them?  If not, now would be  a good time to let them know they should be.

How do we find out if our senator supports the bill? Would that be on their website? Thanks for the info!

Kate – Good question! You can click the link above to go to the govtrack site and then click on co-sponsors, or go to Thomas (http://thomas.loc.gov/) and search on the bill # (S.182) and then click on co-sponsors.
