Postdoc Family Leave Policies

January 16, 2013

As the job season revs up and you’re considering where to apply or job offers, I thought it would be worthwhile to let the WiPS readers know about a very excellent and important document produced by members of the Committee on the Status of Women in Astronomy. Interested in gathering information about family leave policies, they surveyed post-doc affairs offices at 30 different institutions, and received information from 20 of them.  A summary of these policies can be found here.

Please note that this document is a work in progress and that there are 10 institutions from which we’re still working to get information.  Still, I believe this list is a good start and nicely summarizes these policies.  If you would like to see your institution added, please send details to Laura Trouille.

A similar document is being created for graduate students, so stay tuned. I’ll post that one when the information is ready for circulation.

Good luck with the job hunt!  The CSWA has some excellent resources and great advice on its website. Take a look and put your best self forward at those interviews!
